Next week I have to start studying for my EMT refresher course for upkeeping my National Registry certificate. Also, I got a gig up near Santa Rosa for I am putting up several canvases. So I have to create new canvases for the show.

RIGEL (Beta Orionis)

RIGEL (Beta Orionis). Like its rival in Orion, Betelgeuse, Rigel (Beta Orionis) is a supergiant. Its name comes from the same root as Betelgeuse's, originally "rijl Al-jauza," meaning the "foot" of al-jauza, the Arabs "Central One." For us, the star represents the left foot of Orion, the mythical hunter. It is usually pictured as perched upon a fainter star, Cursa (Beta Eridani), which represents the hunter's foot stool. Though Rigel is Orion's Beta star, it appears to us somewhat brighter than the Alpha star, Betelgeuse, perhaps suggesting that Betelgeuse was somewhat brighter in times past. Rigel ranks 7th in visual brightness, just behind Auriga's Capella. At a distance of 775 light years, Rigel actually shines with the light of 40,000 Suns. It is a "blue supergiant," a fairly hot star with a surface temperature (11,000 Kelvin) about double that of our Sun. Its warmer temperature gives it a bluish-white light that contrasts beautifully with Betelgeuse. If the hot star's invisible ultraviolet radiation is considered, the luminosity climbs to 66,000 solar, the radiation pouring from a star 70 times the solar size. Rigel is accompanied by a fairly bright, seventh magnitude companion nine seconds of arc away. Normally such a star is easily found in a small telescope, but Rigel's brilliance nearly overwhelms it. The companion, at least 50 times farther from Rigel than Pluto is from the Sun, is itself double, the components much fainter and much less massive class B main sequence stars that are fusing hydrogen into helium. With an original mass around 17 times that of the Sun, Rigel is in the process of dying, and is most likely fusing internal helium into carbon and oxygen. The star seems fated to explode, though it might just make it under the wire as a rare heavy oxygen-neon white dwarf. Rigel is a part of a large association whose stars are related by birth. The group includes the stars of Orion's Belt, the Orion Nebula of Orion's sword and its illuminating stars, and many of the other hot blue-white stars in the constellation.

Graffiti is not dead; it's just gone legit.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority has nearly eradicated graffiti underground, but the wild, spray-paint characters that once decorated this city's subway trains have begun to surface in movies, murals, mainstream advertising and on the Internet. The artists who were once considered outlaws are now entrepreneurs.

On North 10th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Bob Schneider commissioned one of them to do a full-scale mural for the bus depot he manages. The fresco, which was painted during the summer of 1995, crams two walls with a vivid neo-Aztec-Polynesian-Celtic-Egyptian riff on identity and history. Sarcophagi, dragons, Shivas, villagers, frogs and pyramids are intertwined with burning signatures on the two-story garage. The Pharaoh Wall, as it has become known in the neighborhood, is a local landmark for graffiti writers and the school groups that come to study it.

"The kids understand it better than any of us," Schneider said. "The kids look at it and stare at it and get some ideas," Schneider said. "You look at graffiti writers as being punk kids," he said, "but they're really not. They're artists."

The word "graffito" entered the lexicon in 1851, according to Oxford English Dictionary. Archeologists used the term to describe informal writings on ancient monuments, such as in Rome or Pompeii.

In New York City the graffiti renaissance was ushered in by gangs, subways and indelible markers. In the summer of 1971, a small article in The New York Times took note of Taki 183, an enterprising young man who achieved a kind of fame by scrawling his signature or "tag" on dozens of subway cars with a felt-tip pen. Tagging was also used as a way to mark gang territory, according to Subway Art, Chalfant and Cooper's (http://photoarts.com/cooper/index1.html) seminal book on the subject.

Spray paint became the medium of choice by 1975 when the first top-to-bottom, multicolored names appeared on subway cars. Aerosol culture (http://home.dti.net/futura/index.htm) accelerated in the early eighties when it fused with hip hop's urban aesthetic to create wild style, the big, bright and kinetically cryptic lettering that came to signify the New York look.

Lady Pink helped define that look. "Not only do you have to be an artist, you have to be a bit of a criminal," explained Pink (because she still does a few extralegal pieces, Pink will be identified here only by her tag). When she started out tagging trains in the late 1970s, Pink, now 34, was one of the few serious female graffiti writers in the city.

"I was more of a budding feminist," Pink recalled. "That was the perfect outlet for me. I just could not put up with boys telling me what can and cannot be done. I was out there to prove myself." And she did. During the winter of 1980-81, Pink and some of the city's best wall painters were invited to show their work at the New Museum and P.S.1 in Queens. A flurry of exhibitions and press followed. The art demimonde had discovered graffiti.

"Basically, gallery art happened to us," Pink noted.

Although the attention brought Pink money and a chance to travel, she was uncomfortable with the way it changed her work. "You're just a commodity," she said, "like the stock market. We were only painting for money, and that didn't sit well with me. We were excluding our peers."

Pink still sells an occasional painting on canvas, but her main work is now commissioned by businesses. "Mostly we do interiors," Pink said, "-- airbrush, photo realistic, abstract impressionist -- all styles." For example, Pink organized the collective that painted the Pharaoh Wall in Brooklyn. This year Pink got a grant from the city to paint a mural in Astoria and she and her husband Smith, also a graffiti writer, recently returned from a trip to Belfast, Ireland, where they taught painting to local kids.

Despite the commercial attention, Pink and Smith still do some of their best work for free. "We donate public walls," Pink explained.

If the old school was raised on the instant feedback of New York's subway system, the new generation has had to find other ways and places to get their work up.

After the MTA instituted its "zero tolerance" policy in 1985, aspiring graf writers had to find a new canvas, explained Jake Dobkin, a former graffiti writer and webmaster of the I Can Fly (ICF) site on the Internet. The ICF site on the Web (http://graffiti.org/icf/) serves as a digital gallery and forum on the evolving aesthetics of graffiti. "I like to maintain a presence for ICF worldwide," Dobkin said.

What was once a New York phenomenon has gone national and international.

For instance, the most prolific graffiti artists showcased on Art Crimes (http://www.graffiti.org/) are Europeans -- kids from Germany, Czechoslovakia and Italy. New generation writers also print stickers in runs of 10,000 or more to get their tags up. For larger "throw-ups" -- quickly filled-in signatures -- or more elaborate pieces, new school painters work on freight trains and highway overpasses. "Basically, most writers today will bomb anything that can't pick up and run," explained Dobkin.

"It's all about getting recognized and wanting to define yourself, " said Reggie Martineau. Martineau ran the mural painting program for El Puente, a alternative school on Williamsburg's Southside. "There's a philosophy in graffiti where the more you put your name up the better. Kids still tag up, but the skill level isn't there," he added.

Part of the changeover was caused by popularity, part by simple economics. "When the whole hip hop thing blew up in the '80s people dropped (graffiti), because it became corny and they didn't want anything to do with it," Martineau said. "And, you can't be 20 years old doing stuff for free anymore."

As it spreads, graffiti also mutates. "There's a certain aesthetic that comes from New York, from the city," Martineau said. "The further it goes out, the more influence it brings into the culture. But does it still play the same role in the community where it came from?"

When Gilbert Aviles and Erni Vales teamed up at New York's High School of Art and Design in 1981, graffiti was their obsession. "We were out there doing pieces every weekend," Aviles said. "We were doing IRTs, 4, 5, 6 trains and Js and Ms. It was addictive."

It soon became a business. Aviles and Vales started out painting denim jackets and were later commissioned to paint the interiors of nightclubs and movie sets. The partners formed Erni-Gil Inc., a collaboration that ran from 1986 to 1993. Aviles and Vales are still the best of friends, but their work was going in different directions.

In 1994 Aviles started Gilco and began designing point-of-purchase displays for companies like Converse, Victorinox, Footlocker and Burton snowboards. "They came to me for outrageous designs," Aviles said, "and it just took off." Aviles recently incorporated with a few other artists in a venture called CREW ? Creative Retail Environments Worldwide. The next job: Pepsi.

Meanwhile, Vales has continued painting restaurants and nightclubs and has built a reputation as a set painter. Vales has done sets for Seven, Vampire in Brooklyn and he burned through 230 cans of Krylon painting a 200-foot-long section of tunnel for the movie Money Train. Vales has also done some clothing design and painted backdrops for the TV show New York Undercover and the photographer David LaChapelle. Recently he invested in a Connecticut restaurant and is considering another restaurant startup. "That all really did branch off from graffiti," Vales noted.

Although Vales contributed to the Pharoah Wall, he doesn?t do illegal work anymore. "I can pretty much work whenever I want,? Vales said, ?so the prospect of working for free and maybe going to jail doesn?t really appeal to me."

For Aviles graffiti was a beginning, not an end in itself. "My whole point of view as an artist stems from that," he said. "It was a great growing period, but it's not my whole life."

"Erni and I were both kind of hustlers," Aviles said. "I never had to go to a job interview -- I've always worked for myself, and I've done pretty well."

OUTLAW ART FORM GOES FROM STREETS TO MAINSTREAM

It was born on the streets. It thrived defiantly on freeway underpasses and subways, matured all over the world, and now is achieving immortality on the Internet.

Despite its long and sometimes unsavory past, graffiti art is finally growing up -- exploding into more than just illegal writing on the wall. It's become so mainstream that recently one of the tasks on the television show ``The Apprentice'' had contestants hiring a graffiti artist to create a billboard to advertise the racing video game ``Gran Turismo 4.''

``To me, graffiti is Neverland,'' says Crayone, one of the first graffiti artists on the West Coast to break into the gallery scene. ``No matter how old I get, I can still rock it with spray paint. Every time I do the art, I feel younger. It's the equivalent of somebody my age buying a Ferrari,'' says Crayone, who works by day as a graphic artist in San Francisco. ``Now at 38, I understand the homeowners' perspective and the kids' perspective.''

This week, the Bay Area showcases two free graffiti shows: one at California State University-East Bay in Hayward, and another at the Children's Art Museum in Oakland.

``Graffiti artists are the new artists,'' says Albert Austria, a 23-year-old art and graphic design major who organized the Hayward event and has been a graffiti fan since he was a youngster.

Tagging -- using spray paint to sign one's moniker -- started in the early 1960s. Gangs later picked up on the trend and used ``tags'' to mark their territory. Most graffiti is illegal, and tagging has been widely decried as vandalism.

Causing more than $400 in damage to property is a felony, and anything less is a misdemeanor, according to an officer with the Graffiti Task Force of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he fears a backlash from some of the more hardened violators. ``We do seek restitution for the damage that has been done.''

Filmmaker Tony Silver documents this longtime battle between the graffiti artists and the Establishment in his 1983 graffiti documentary ``Style Wars.'' The film has become so revered in hip-hop circles that the Beastie Boys and Mos Def have lifted segments of interviews in the documentary to blend into their songs.

Silver describes graffiti as ``poetry'' and ``paradox.''

``The urge to do it without permission remains the key part of what it's all about, one of the original paradoxes'' of graffiti art, says Silver. ``But also hoping, wishing . . . to be accepted both illegally and legally, so they can make a living.''

Nowadays, Web sites have archives of photographs of graffiti long gone, as well as online ``public walls'' to tag and experiment on.

Beyond products, graffiti art has spread all over the world. In Europe, there are stores that sell paint specifically for graffiti and sponsor graffiti contests that award paint to winners. And recently, in Taiwan, five parks have opened up public walls for anyone to paint on.

``We had no idea back then that graffiti had a future, really,'' says Silver. ``But it clearly does, and is now so much a part of the visual culture, of people's understanding of what kids are about.''

Randy ``KEL 1st'' Rodriguez -- a New York artist who has designed custom graffiti jewelry for the likes of Madonna, rapper Busta Rhymes and R&B singer Kelis -- says the possibilities are endless. ``Now we can use all the technology to create merchandise and products, to extend . . . beyond the size of the subway, and give us a greater immortality.''

But Crayone sees it differently. Although he was paid to paint the walls of Ubisoft, a San Francisco video game company, he still goes out to the ``yards'' every weekend. Graffiti is ``sadly becoming more accepted,'' he says. ``If as an art it becomes legitimized, it'll lose the essence of the art form.''

On the path to legitimacy, community programs have used graffiti as a way to get kids off the streets. One program, called Higher Gliffs, is showing their art work at Children's Art Museum. They hope to cultivate uniqueness and creativity in young teens, says coordinator Sam Mulberry.

``It keeps me out of trouble,'' says Demar Ellis, a 13-year-old participant from Oakland.

That goes for Edward ``Scape'' Martinez, too. Now in his 30s, Scape says his very first piece was on a South Bay campus. Where, he won't say. But while gangs first brought him to graffiti, the San Jose artist now only creates legally sanctioned art. Recently, one of his pieces was hanging at San Jose's City Hall in vice mayor Cindy Chavez's office.

Now, he is working on a new line of T-shirts under the label 408, tied to San Jose's area code. Because to Scape, ``Graffiti is identity.''

KILROY WAS HERE!

In 1946 the American Transit Association, through its radio program, "Speak to America," sponsored a nationwide contest to find the REAL Kilroy, offering a prize of a real trolley car to the person who could prove himself to be the genuine article.

Almost 40 men stepped forward to make that claim, but only James Kilroy from Halifax, Massachusetts had evidence of his identity.

Kilroy was a 46 year old shipyard worker during the war. He worked as a checker at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. His job was to go around and check on the number of rivets completed. Riveters were on piecework and got paid by the rivet.

Kilroy would count a block of rivets and put a check mark in semi waxed lumber chalk, so the rivets wouldn't be counted twice. When Kilroy went off duty, the riveters would erase the mark.

Later on, an off shift inspector would come through and count the rivets a second time, resulting in double pay for the riveters.

One day Kilroy's boss called him into his office. The foreman was upset about all the wages being paid to riveters, and asked him to investigate. It was then that he realized what had been going on.

The tight spaces he had to crawl in to check the rivets didn't lend themselves to lugging around a paint can and brush, so Kilroy decided to stick with the waxy chalk. He continued to put his check mark on each job he inspected, but added KILROY WAS HERE in king sized letters next to the check, and eventually added the sketch of the chap with the long nose peering over the fence and that became part of the Kilroy message. Once he did that,
the riveters stopped trying to wipe away his marks.

Ordinarily the rivets and chalk marks would have been covered up with paint. With war on, however, ships were leaving the Quincy Yard so fast that there wasn't time to paint them.

As a result, Kilroy's inspection "trademark" was seen by thousands of servicemen who boarded the troopships the yard produced. His message apparently rang a bell with the servicemen, because they picked it up and spread it all over Europe and the South Pacific. Before the war's end, "Kilroy" had been here, there, and everywhere on the long haul to Berlin and Tokyo.

To the unfortunate troops outbound in those ships, however, he was a complete mystery; all they knew for sure was that some jerk named Kilroy had "been there first." As a joke, U.S. servicemen
began placing the graffiti wherever they landed, claiming it was already there when they arrived.

Kilroy became the U.S. super-GI who had always "already been" wherever GIs went. It became a challenge to place the logo in the most unlikely places imaginable (it is said to be atop Mt. Everest, the Statue of Liberty, the underside of the Arc de Triomphe, and even scrawled in the dust on the moon.)

And as the war went on, the legend grew. Underwater demolition teams routinely sneaked ashore on Japanese held islands in the Pacific to map the terrain for the coming invasions by U.S. troops (and thus, presumably, were the first GI's there). On one occasion, however,
they reported seeing enemy troops painting over the Kilroy logo! In 1945, an outhouse was built
for the exclusive use of Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill at the Potsdam conference.

The first person inside was Stalin, who emerged and asked his aide (in Russian), "Who is Kilroy?" ..

To help prove his authenticity in 1946, James Kilroy brought along officials from the shipyard and some of the riveters. He won the trolley car, which he attached to his house in Halifax, Massachusetts to provide living quarters for six of his nine children.

Art Patronage System

From the ancient world onward patronage of the arts was important in art history. It is known in greatest detail in reference to pre-modern medieval and Renaissance Europe, though patronage can also be traced in feudal Japan, the traditional Southeast Asian kingdoms, and elsewhere—art patronage tended to arise wherever a royal or imperial system and an aristocracy dominated a society and controlled a significant share of resources. Samuel Johnson defined a patron as "one who looks with unconcern on a man struggling for life in the water, and, when he has reached ground, encumbers him with help".

Rulers, nobles, and very wealthy people used patronage of the arts to endorse their political ambitions, social positions, and prestige. That is, patrons operated as sponsors. Some languages still use the term mecenate, derived from the name of Gaius Maecenas, generous friend and adviser to the Roman Emperor Augustus. Some patrons, such as the Medici of Florence, used artistic patronage to "cleanse" wealth that was perceived as ill-gotten through usury. Art patronage was especially important in the creation of religious art. The Roman Catholic Church and later Protestant groups sponsored art and architecture, as seen in churchs, cathedrals, painting, sculpture, and handicrafts.

While sponsorship of artists and the commissioning of artwork is the best-known aspect of the patronage system, other disciplines also benefitted from patronage including those who studied natural philosophy (pre-modern science), musicians, writers, philosophers, alchemists, astrologers, and other scholars. Artists as diverse and important as Chrétien de Troyes, Leonardo de Vinci and Michelangelo, William Shakespeare, and Ben Jonson all sought and enjoyed the support of noble or ecclesiastical patrons. Figures as late as Mozart and Beethoven also participated in the system to some degree; it was only with the rise of bourgeois and capitalist social forms in the 19th century that European culture moved away from its patronage system to the more publicly-supported system of museums, theatres, mass audiences and mass consumption that is familiar in the contemporary world.

This kind of system continues across many fields of the arts. Though the nature of the sponsors has changed—from churches to charitable foundations, and from aristocrats to plutocrats—the term patronage has a more neutral connotation than in politics. It may simply refer to direct support (often financial) of an artist, for example by grants.

In the later part of the 20th century the academic sub-discipline of patronage studies began to evolve, in recognition of the important and often neglected role that the phenomenon of patronage had played in the cultural life of previous centuries.

So that means it takes 1 week to produce the shirts, so that means we got like maybe till this Monday, so if we got started on it now, put in the work on Thursday from 5pm till 11pm, that's like 6 hours of work (after my 9-5), plus maybe another 6 hours (after work) on Monday the 25th, that's like 12 hours of work.

• A gallery show in a month

• Creating music for my Cd project selling through bomb hip-hop Records label. (I don't know if you ever tried to get rappers for a project, but it's like hearding cats)...lol.
• Sketches and Mural at emmy's speghetti shack in the mission district
• I work a 9-5 and my girlfriend is complaining that I'm never home...

I think I might be missing a project or two but I have to put these on hold on those 2 days (the 21st and the 25th) to finish your project.

I usually charge $50.00 an hour, so yes, I do want to do the shirt thing for your company, but whats your budget? What can you afford? I'm pretty flexible.

What a sick weekend...

Last Friday was dope. I was invited to Aware's DJ gig and right around the place where he was DJin', the TDK gallery show with Peety from Italy was there showing some of their works. It was a dope night. The whole block was cut off. Low riders, Spies work was off the chain. Gave my respects to some Oakland heads, Amend getting down and doing a truck. Met up with Dream brother and I gave him my business card to maybe build on some projects. Met up with hella folks just talking about the old days, current times and to build on certain projects weather if it was music or art. Susan Farrell from Art Crimes and on and on... I was told not to bring any spraypaints since there were going to be low riders, so I didn't bring them but I had some house paints. When I got there, the party was jumping already, Aware was getting down with Ezra (both from AS) and they got off, but unfortunatly for me, I sucked that night, well everynight when I use a brush. I admit it. The house paint never dried plus I saw folks getting up with spraypaint right next to low riders. jesus. Chilled with Aware and Sundance and Seth and his boy at a cool burrito spot near lake merrit after the show.

That saturday morning I had a meeting, then see moms and run an errand for my girlfriend and on Sunday, I would be painting a mural on some busy street corner in East Oakland. So I am meeting up with the folks from UBC (Universal B-Boy Crew) and it was a tight meeting, lots of opportunities and everything sounded good, but I drank way too many glasses of coca-colas. Like around 7 ( I think), anyway, so I'm buzzin', feeling good, getting gear, and by the time I was up chillin' with moms, another business person called me to get ready to project an image up unto the wall by 9pm that night. I was never told to be anywhere except to be at the wall ready to paint on Sunday morning. So, I was a little stressed, THEN BAM, my body started to break down. I felt dizzy, sleepy, headaches, drowzy, sick, and I still ran errands, and had 2 hours before 9pm to just either sleep it out or sweat it out. I was super sick. Nothing. Dude, I don't know what the fuck it was, maybe it was a room temperature oysters, maybe the sugar rush and the stress combo that did me in!

At night, I go out there with Ezra (painting partner for the wall), and we buffed the wall with like almost every car blarring out some rap music (which was tight), cars with oversized wheels, with bright paint color and decals... The next morning, I wake up, still hella sick. My girlfriend keeps giving me something like salt tablets or something stupid... I felt like I was getting worse not better. Poor Susan, I know she had good intentions. So Ezra and I were at the wall setting up shop with the gig person and we started painting. Now I am in my mode, im painting. It's what I do, so I didn't feel as sick any longer. Anyway, after the gig person gave me about 4 asprins, I felt way better. Yea, so there it is. In a nutshell. I was supposed to see alot of people that weekend or speak to them at least, but I got sick so I hope this explains some of the bullshit I had to go through. It was a sick weekend. :(

Yo, what's up folks... Just giving you heads up on what I've been doing and what I will be doing.

Just couple of weeks ago, I was out on the Wharf with a friend of mine name Winston and was trying to sell my shirts out in the streets. Hard work that's for sure. But as soon as I can get some money to buy my license to sell on the streets of San Francisco, I will be out there pretty much every weekend if I can. Need to do more designs.

Last night I had a meeting with a dude by the name of illtext and we had a meeting of the mind. He's done his graffiti awhile back and now he's creating some dope beats and banging his music on a Cd and getting his music out there getting his hustle on. I am painting tomorrow night at a night club in Oakland (not a crazy-ass live performance), more like chillin' and painting and taking my time kind of deal.

On Saturday, I will be meeting with the owners of UBC (Universal B-boy Clothing) around noon time (lunch meeting) to further discuss my involvement in the company and to produce a line of t-shirts. I also asked them if they can take me to the next Majic show in Las Vegas.

I am in the process of making a promotional Crayone EMK (Electronic Media Kit) to send out to potential clients for more graphics freelance work. I am also making another EMK for all of my skills packaged into one media kit. Plus, I hooked up with a long time good friend of mine from Salinas who does tattoos for a living and I might try to break into the tattoo design industry to see if some of my designs can be licensed. Will be at the next Tattoo Convention.

In the fall, I will be taking a class at the local community college. It's an EMT class to get ready for my firefighters test I will be taking next year in march. Since my sisters a firefighter in the city, she's giving me heads up on what's going on in the SFFD. Word up on trying to hook a brotha up!

South Lake Tahoe Vacation

Never play with food.

I went on a 4th of July Vacation with my mom and sister and it was the best damn vacation I had in a long time! We got there Thursday night and gambled a little bit, went to sleep.

Friday morning, we had a very big breakfast at the hotel, gambled a little bit, went shopping, saw the best fireworks ever! They say it's the best fireworks show west of the Mississippi.
Went to Reno and checked out the festivals there. It was very hot. Came back. Oh yea, we also took a trip around the lake in the car, seen some river rafting, went sight seeing a lot of beaches and overlooking vast areas of the lake and mountains.

We also rented a speed boat and reached some of the beaches from the water, we anchorded and we swam the freezing lake. Went across the lake to the other side and did the same thing and came back and returned the boat in less than 4 hours flat.

Moms were getting a little tired and we skipped the gondalas that could of taken us straight up the the highest mountain peak, but the air was a little thin and moms was getting a little headache.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you cause I don't remember taking a vacation like that ever. It's just been all work and no play for me for a couple of years. I got the best mom and sister a guy can ever have!

Just finished 90% of my new website. It's more of a graphics/layout job seeking website actually. And as a secondary element, I kept my "other" works. If the numbers drop, must likely, I will bring the old website back as a link somehow.

I've been getting around 25,000 unique eyeballs a month for about 6 years now. That's over 2 million visitors. I am very proud of this notoriety. I do appreciate tremendously on each and every person coming into my site. Still going steady with a 9-5 and there are several b-boy events before the gallery opening at MILK in SF next month. I will be showing my works with NATE1-mpc, PENGO1 and FURYone.

I finally got a hold of Raevyn and Picasso and they gave me their word on being involved this summer for a "Mid-Summer Classic" TWS Production over at my old wall in Oakland.

Estria called and wanted me and other TWS members to get involved in a book designed to fully appreciate what kind of artwork went up during the early years of San Francisco/Bay Area Graffiti scene. I think that Roger Gasman is also involved in this project.

Couple of friends dropped off a CD full of music to sample from and I've been creating loops of 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 measures. I've created and worked over 400 samples ready to be placed into my Reason Program and so that I can get back into making beats.

As you know my girlfriend went into surgery to keep a blood clot in check. Her situation was advanced. She had one in her legs and when she went to the hospital, another blood clot was found in her lungs. She had a blood transfusion and a micro "strainer like object" inserted into one of her larger veins. Now she's back after a stay at the hospital for almost 2 weeks. Now there's a nurse checking up on her every once in a while at our crib. Just this morning, it seems like the blood clot is coming back and Susan assures me that this type of situation will be ongoing and that this is going to come and go for the next few months. I worry about her.

Anyway, that's about it. Keeping you posted.

The doctor just told her that she might be moving out of the ICU to a general room where they can monitor her. It's good to know that she's getting better. Just went to go visit her at night with my sister and she's doing well. Her right leg is now not as bloated and it was almost flush red and hot to the touch. Definitly the blood is getting into her leg and circulating. She might be in a wheel chair for a couple of weeks. She hopes to go back to teaching this Monday.

About a week ago, my girlfriend started noticing her right leg was becoming "bloated" and knew it was a serious concern, so last night, I took her into the emergency room and after the doctors scanned her with different machines, they found 2 clogged arteries in her leg and lung. She's going to need a blood transfusion and hopefully get out of the hospital in a few days... All our hearts goes out to her and in her getting well. She's hates the cell phone, but friends and family have been sending their love to her.

I had a chance to paint with EskaeAS and it was a 2 day project. It was a week before the movie came out and people in the neighborhood came out in full force and asked a lot of questions. They are a very smart group of people knowing full well what is and what isn't art and got to hear some of the politics in the area. We painted in the rain on Saturday and Sunday was a very beautiful day. I would of liked to go back there and painted something a little more permanent but that's up to the people in the neighborhood. The photos were taken with my MotoQ. Better photos coming soon.

I wrote the letter on my blog when I was heated. I got called a Bitch 30 Times with like 30 writers around me... So yea, I was a little heated. It was a business decision that was converted into something personal. What I wrote about you wasn't cool and I do apologize. Looking back now, I realized that you and ICP was and still is today holdin' frisco down against outside interests and putting up some dope work, no doubt. I hold no grudes against you and at the end of the day you have frisco in the best interest. If anything, I still give you and your crew props whenever the conversation comes about you guys. There's no hate. I created a haiku about a year ago and hopefully this haiku sums it all up for all of us living day to day trying to survive and do graffiti as much as possible...
